By now, just about everyone has heard that the displays in upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 models will be a bit larger. But a new report from a reliable source says they’ll actually be even bigger than many might expect.
It’s been widely reported that the 2021 Apple Watch will come in either 45mm or 41mm sizes, up from 44mm or 40mm. Doesn’t sound like much change — but apparently those numbers don’t tell the whole story.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg points out that those are the vertical widths of the cases. His sources tell him that the larger version will increase in size by 7%.
“The new screen itself — measured diagonally — will be about 1.9 inches on the larger model, up from 1.78 inches,” he says. A decrease in the size of the bezels will make room for the added screen real estate.
The device allegedly will have a screen resolution of 396-by-484 pixels, a jump up from 368-by-448 pixels in the current 44mm model. “That increase means the device will have about 16% more pixels,” says Gurman.
Bloomberg’s sources also say Cupertino created fresh Apple Watch faces that take advantage of the additional screen pixels. One will supposedly be a world clock able to show all 24 times zones at once. Others will offer additional complications.
It’s likely these will only be for the 2021 model as they require the higher-resolution display.
Apple Watch Series 7 is a notable upgrade
In addition to larger displays, the redesign of the seventh-generation Apple Watch supposedly will include flatter edges. And it undoubtedly will come with a faster processor.
But the changes reportedly won‘t include adding a blood pressure monitor. That’s supposed to be coming, but not before 2022. The same goes for temperature monitoring.
It’s not clear when Apple Watch Series 7 will debut. It was expected in September, but the device reportedly ran into problems that have delayed production by a few weeks.
