Redditor NotDeadYet7917 dragged himself out of bed on Monday and photographed his M1 MacB00k Air computer setup exactly as it appears in real life. It’s not staged like some of these fancy-schmance setups you see (we’ve seen plenty). And you can tell the workstation is keeping it real by how “lived-in” it looks.

Or some might say by “messy it is.” But if fewer people used social media to flex their tech, a lot more setups would probably look more like this. And they probably do look more like this away from the lens. Like 90% of the time, anyway.
In fact, we admit our keyboard looks like it moonlights as a picnic table, what with all the crumbs and smudges on it. Our whole desk is a dustbin, really. There’s so much dust we could use one, actually.
M1 MacBook Air rig keeps it real
Probable Monty Python fan NotDeadYet titled his post, “My realistic setup. Mess and all.” We’re just guessing his Reddit handle comes from a certain “Bring out yer dead!” scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975).
“I see a lot of them on here where I’m like ‘yeah that’s staged’ lol,” he said of setups he sees on social media. “This was not. This picture was taken this morning after burning a good bit of midnight oil last night.”
When someone asked in the comments about his Coca-Cola mini fridge, he realized he initially forgot to put it in his list of gear.
“There’s so much crap on my desk that I didn’t even think about it,” he said.
Messy but undoubtedly productive
NotDeadYet sets up his M1 MacBook Air to drive a 24-inch Acer KC242Y HD monitor with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution running at 75Hz. It sports a 1ms response time, pretty quick.
The MBA has an Anker multi-port USB-C hub attached, connecting laptop to peripherals. Could be a 5-in-1, or something in that functional range. Anker offers hubs upon hubs.
NotDeadYet uses an Apple Magic Keyboard, but skips the Magic Mouse in favor of a Logitech MX Master 2s Mouse. The Logi features an auto-shifting scroll wheel and lets you navigate on three computers, Mac or PC.
He also has an 8th gen iPad with an A12 Bionic Chip with Neural Engine, plus slick front and back cameras.
A Tessan Power Strip Tower — sort of a plug-sprouting robot-looking thing, backlit at upper right in the photo — brings the juice. AirPods Pro and Logitech z407 Bluetooth Computer Speakers bring the sound.
The whole shebang jockeys for space on a large HyperX Desk Mat.
“I don’t know how I lived without this thing for so long,” he said of the mat. “My wrist feels so much better now. I’m really thinking of getting one for the office now.”
Oh. With those cinder block walls and the harried, workmanlike air about the place, at first we kind of thought this was the office. It’s almost as messy as ours.
