Someday, Apple could make tablets as large as the biggest MacBooks. The company is reportedly investigating making super size iPad models with displays larger than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, according to a reliable source for insider info.

“I’m told that Apple has engineers and designers exploring larger iPads that could hit stores a couple of years down the road at the earliest,“ said Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

But the super size iPad supposedly will not be the next models. In 2022 will come iPad Pro versions with MagSafe added but the current screen sizes, according to the Bloomberg reporter.

Gurman is one of the most reliable Apple tipsters, with an 89.1% accuracy rate, according to AppleTrack.

iPad size gets bigger and bigger

The iPad line has grown significantly since the first 9.7-inch model debuted back in 2010. The big breakthrough (pun intended) was the iPad Pro first jumping up to 12.9 inches in 2015.

And other models have increased in size too. They all started at 9.7 inches, but the basic iPad is now 10.2 inches, and the most recent iPad Air is 10.9 inches. But no iPad size has passed the 12.9-inch mark, despite occasional calls for an iPad Pro Max.

That might change, if Gurman is correct. But note that he said Apple is “exploring” the idea of larger iPad versions, not committed to them. The company could decide at some point in the future they’re impractical.
