Monday’s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote was short on tangible details about Apple TV+. But Apple seized upon arguably its biggest week of the year to showcase a new trailer highlighting the great shows and movies available to watch on its subscription video service. And previewing one or two more.
To a remixed version of The Beach Boys’ classic “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” the two-minute Apple TV+ ad shows off the slate of Apple Originals. It casts Apple TV+ productions as mold-breakers, with original vision — and no shortage of big hits. It also offers some nice shots of upcoming productions, including Apple’s Foundation sci-fi series, the CODA movie that swept Sundance, the second season of surprise hit Ted Lasso and more.
Check it out below.
Apple TV+ is available for $4.99 per month. Alternatively, you can get it free for one year if you buy a new iPad, iPhone, Mac or Apple TV. You can also get it as part of an Apple One subscription bundle, as one strand in a broader collection of services for a knock-down price.
Cupertino still refuses to divulge Apple TV+ subscriber numbers. But by all accounts, the (almost certainly) money-losing Apple TV+ lags far behind competitors like Netflix and Disney+.
However, as this new trailer makes abundantly clear, Apple TV+ is building up quite a catalog of original shows and movies. And, in Apple’s favor, it owns the rights to them all. That means they can’t easily be snapped up by a rival service in the way that, say, repeats of Friends or The Office can.
