There’s a bit more evidence that the iPad mini 6 will feature a dramatic redesign. A mockup of the tablet leaked out, showing an edge-to-edge display and an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

Other sources previously pointed to Apple’s smallest tablet getting a size upgrade in the near future.

xleaks7 (aka David Kowalski) shared the new images and video with the Italian-language site Pigtou. According to this source, the iPad mini 6 will measure 8.0 inches by 5.3 inches by 0.25 inches. That’s essentially the same size as the current version.

However, the Home button is being dropped and the screen is being enlarged to fill almost the entire front. That will supposedly make the screen about 9.15 inches diagonally, up from the current 7.9 inches.

With the Home button gone, the tablet allegedly will include an in-screen Touch ID fingerprint scanner. This same feature also might appear in the iPhone 13 this autumn, according to previous leaks.

Curiously, the new iPad mini mockup includes rounded edges. The iPad Pro and Air series now come with flat sides, and iPhone 12 made the move to flat edges, too.

More iPad mini 6 rumors

Other leaks pointed to the iPad mini 6 coming with a larger display, though one source pointed to a more modest increase to 8.4 inches. Still, almost a year ago, trusted TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted a version with a screen between 8.5 inches and 9 inches coming in the first half of 2021.

An upgrade to a faster processor is considered likely, too.

The new iPad mini could arrive as soon as April, along with an enhanced iPad Pro. Apple last updated the iPad mini in March 2019, adding a faster A12 Bionic processor and support for Apple Pencil.
