Apple’s rumored March event reportedly will take place in April

Apple April Event — Oops!
Time marches on. So do March events.

Apple’s next product launch will take place in April, not March, a soon-to-be-eyebrowless Jon Prosser claimed Wednesday. Prodigious leaker Prosser had been so sure of his predicted date of March 23 for Apple’s next event that he wagered the integrity of his own facial hair on it. Now he’s admitting defeat.

“The event is in April,” Prosser tweeted. In a follow-up, he suggested that Apple had not previous hosted an April event, so “I get it if you’re skeptical. But here we are.”

Rumors indicate several products will arrive at Apple’s March April event. New iPads are two of the notable ones. These could include an iPad Pro with mini-LED display and a redesigned iPad mini. An Apple Pencil 3 could be in the cards as well.

We’ve also heard rumors of third-generation AirPods, although TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recent said these won’t arrive before autumn. In addition, we’re still waiting on Apple’s AirTags item trackers, and maybe even a new Apple TV.

Apple is also widely expected to introduce a new iMac, alongside new MacBooks, but these likely will arrive much later.

Apple’s April event in the works

Contrary to what Prosser says, Apple did host an April event previously. Way back in 2010, it showed off iOS 4 (at the time called iPhone OS), alongside a new software development kit for the platform. However, in recent years Apple favored March as its month of choice for product launches.

Last year, Apple reportedly pulled the plug on a planned March event at a late date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It remains clear this year whether Prosser was simply mistaken, or whether Apple considered March 23 as a date — prior to delaying it a month. (Maybe Apple CEO Tim Cook really wants to see what Prosser will look like with shaved eyebrows.)

Prosser did not suggest an exact date for Apple’s April event. Like all of Apple’s media events last year, it seems likely this will be another virtual event with no live audience at Apple Park.
