An update to Apple Maps adds COVID-19 vaccination locations. Users can find nearby businesses and organizations providing the life-saving injections from the Search bar in Apple Maps by selecting COVID-19 Vaccines in the Find Nearby menu.

The Apple Maps entry for each vaccine site includes the operating hours, address, phone numbers, and — most importantly — a link to the provider’s website where people can learn more about available vaccines and book appointments.

The software comes bundled on Mac, iPhone and iPad. It’s free to use.

Alternatively, Apple says that users will be able to ask Siri, “Where can I get a COVID vaccination?” But Cult of Mac testing shows that this currently doesn’t open Apple Maps — it instead shows links to websites where searches for vaccines can be done.

The Mac-maker’s default navigation application added COVID-19 testing locations in September 2020.

The map data comes from VaccineFinder, a free, online service developed by Boston Children’s Hospital. The initial rollout includes more than 20,000 locations.

Apple intends to add more sites in the coming weeks. Healthcare providers, labs or other businesses can submit information on COVID-19 testing or vaccination locations on the Apple Business Register page.
