Two different leakers claim to give the world very early looks at Apple’s MagSafe power bank for on-the-go charging. This will allegedly attach to an iPhone with magnets so it can wireless juice up the handset.

But there are questions whether Apple can fix problems with development and actually release the product.

What the rumors say

The first image of Apple’s MagSafe power bank comes from LeaksApplePro on Twitter.

This was followed up a few days later by Jon Prosser devoting part of the most-recent Front Page Tech YouTube show to the device. He provided a render of the magnetically-attached battery that matches the earlier image.

According to Prosser, the sides of the accessory will be aluminum while the front and back will be plastic to allow wireless power transmission.

The new MagSafe system includes magnets built into the back of the latest iPhone models. Accessories — like this power bank — cling to the handset with these. And devices that fully support the system offer 15 watt wireless charging.

Apple’s rumored device would take that one step father by supposedly offering two-way charging. That would allow the battery to inductively power an iPhone or get recharged itself.

Apple MagSafe power bank for iPhone might never launch

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg talked about this charger weeks ago, and he warns there have been problems with development.

Both Gurman and Prosser claim their inside sources at Apple say there’s a chance these might never be ironed out so that the Apple MagSafe power bank development project could be dropped without ever being announced.
