This is Trunk, and it’s possibly the most interesting and enticing iPhone app I’ve seen for weeks.
In short, it’s a personal wiki. Just like VoodooPad for desktop OS X, Trunk lets you create, edit, search and share formatted text notes. The video above demonstrates most of the primary features, including editing across the wifi network, which means your notes can be synced, in a manner of speaking, with your computer.
Even better, Trunk supports Markdown for note formatting, which means headings, notes and lists can be created with the minimum of effort. According to early posts in the official Trunk forum, import of existing HTML or Markdown documents will be coming in a future update.
My first impressions are very positive. I like the way the UI includes one-button shortcuts for Markdown’s frequently used formatting characters (# and *, for headings and lists respectively). The edit-over-wifi function works nicely and after just a few minutes, I’m starting to see how this app could come in very useful for carrying around certain lists and notes that need occasional edits.
And it’s SO MUCH NICER than the built-in notes app. But then, many 3rd-party App Store notepads are.
For anyone looking for something a bit different from an iPhone notebook, Trunk is well worth trying.
