As the saying goes, you can never be too rich or have too long a battery life. Apple apparently listened, because a respected analyst says there will be room in all the 2021 iPhone 13 models for larger batteries.

These iOS handsets supposedly will all come with smaller notches, better 5G modems and fancier cameras, too.

2021 iPhone 13 includes important tweaks

The predictions about the iPhone 13 series come from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities in a note to investors sent Monday and seen by Cult of Mac. Kuo says the four iOS handsets coming in the second half of the year will have much in common with the iPhone 12, including the same screen sizes and Lightning ports. But there will be a number of improvements, nevertheless.

That includes the battery. “The new 2H21 iPhone models feature a larger battery capacity than the iPhone 12 series, thanks to the space-saving design of many components,” said Kuo. “Hence, the new 2H21 iPhone models are also slightly heavier than the iPhone 12.”

He also joined the chorus of voices saying the screen notch will shrink this year. And he agrees the display will jump to 120Hz, at least for the two high-end Pro models.

Every model should get a 5G upgrade, according to Kuo. Apple’s first 5G iPhones use the Qualcomm 7nm X55M modem, but the analyst reports the upcoming iPhone 13 models will come with a 5nm X60M modem. This should reduce 5G’s drain on the battery.

The 2021 iPhone Pro models will have better rear-facing cameras, with the ultra-wide camera offering six lenses, f/1.8 and autofocus. All four of the upcoming iOS handsets supposedly will have touchscreens with Y-OCTA tech and a sensor-shift wide camera — features previously limited to only the top-tier models. But Lidar isn’t expanding to the less-expensive devices.

To be clear, Kuo doesn’t predict the name will be “iPhone 13.” He always calls these the “2H21 iPhones.” An earlier report from another tipster says the new models will be called the iPhone 12s.

AppleTrack gives Kuo a 78.2% accuracy rating based on years of previous predictions. He taps sources in Apple’s supply chain for his insights into future products.
