Apple is celebrating China’s National Fitness Day for the third year in a row with a new Apple Watch Activity Challenge. The National Fitness Day challenge can be completed by recording a half hour or longer workout on August 8.

China designated August 8 as National Fitness day in 2009, marking the anniversary of the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.

Unfortunately, the challenge is only available to people in the Greater China region. (Although that shouldn’t stop anyone getting some exercise on the day.) Those who do successfully complete the challenge can earn exclusives badges in the Activity app. They will also receive animated stickers for use in Messages and FaceTime.

Most Apple Watch Activity Challenges are available throughout the world. However, in some cases Apple opts for region-locked challenges to mark specific events. It first offered a National Fitness Day award in 2018.

You can get more information on Apple’s various activity challenges and the best ways to complete them by checking out this helpful guide from my unusually muscular for a blogger colleague Graham Bower.

Fitness has become an increasingly important aspect of the Apple Watch. Tim Cook has suggested that Apple’s innovative health and wellness focus could wind up being the company’s biggest contribution to the world.
