The latest episode of the Steven Spielberg executive produced sci-fi anthology series Amazing Stories is available to check out on Apple TV+.

The fourth of five standalone episodes, “Signs of Life,” tells the story of a teenager who struggles to reconnect with the stranger that is their mother after she awakens from a six-year coma. It landed on Apple TV+ Friday morning.

The episode stars Sasha Lane (2019’s Hellboy) as teenaged Alia. Josh Holloway (Lost) also plays important supporting character Wayne.

Along with Spielberg’s involvement, Amazing Stories‘s showrunners are Once Upon a Time co-creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. The latter joined the project after Apple removed original showrunner Bryan Fuller.

So far, the series has a pretty good track record. Of the three previous episodes, two have been great and one has been so-so, if unremarkable. This latest episode, which Cult of Mac will have a review of as soon as possible, looks like the series’ darkest episode yet. While I wouldn’t expect Servant-levels of creepiness, this is definitely a different slant on the sci-fi formula thus far. From the trailer, it looks like it has a bit of a Stranger Things vibe going on.
