Apple’s educational coding app, Swift Playgrounds, has finally made its way to the Mac.

After landing on the iPad in 2016, Apple has created a Catalyst version of Swift Playgrounds for Mac, making it easier for anyone to dive into the interactive lessons, no matter which platform you prefer most.

Swift Playgrounds for Mac is available as a free macOS app from the Mac App Store. The app provides a series of fun lessons that teach you how to code through interactive puzzles. It also gives you challenges to explore your coding capabilities.

Although the Mac version of Swift Playgrounds features all the same lessons you’ll find on the iPad version, there are a couple of differences. Apple added sidebar and Touch Bar support for the macOS app. The macOS version also lets you use the arrow keys or trackpad to navigate to code suggestions.

The new Mac app works seamlessly with Swift Playgrounds for iPad. Thanks to iCloud, you can start one playground on your Mac and then open it up later on your iPad.

Swift Playgrounds requires zero coding knowledge, making it great for students of all ages. Learning the basics of Swift can help set you down a path toward mastering the programming language used to create most of the popular apps on iPhone and iPad.
