Apple Music has added another media industry veteran to its roster of top executives.

Former Warner Music Group head of innovation, Jeff Bronkikowski, revealed that he has accepted a job with the iPhone-maker to become the new global head of strategic music initiatives for Apple Music.

“Super excited to start my new role at Apple today…” wrote Bronkikowski on a LinkedIn post seen by Cult of Mac. “I’m looking forward to working with Apple Music’s amazing team of old friends as well as the new ones to be made.”

Bronkikowski’s pre-Apple days

Before his time at Warner, Bronkikowski was tasked with overseeing business development at Universal Music Group. He also was the general manager of AOL Music and Yahoo! Music and worked at the Echo Nest before it was acquired by Spotify. On the non-music biz side of things, he served as chief operating operate for the streaming fitness video subscription service DailyBurn.

It’s likely that Bronkikowski will be tasked with helping Apple Music grow its global paid subscriber base. Last summer the company reported that it has over 60 million paid subscribers. That number has been dwarfed by Spotify which hit 124 million subscribers by the end of 2019.

Bronkikowski will be based in NYC but will spend a lot of time in Cupertino, as well as some time in at the company’s growing media hub in Culver City, California.
