Apps! Of the week!

This week we pay more for our calendars, shoot with both iPhone cameras simultaneously, share six-second videos like it’s 2015, and save some bookmarks. Take a look at the week’s best iOS apps, both new and updates.

DoubleTake by Filmic Pro

DoubleTake, from the maker of Filmic, lets you shoot video through the font and back iPhone cameras simultaneously. This is perfect for shooting interviews, capturing the subject and interviewer together. It works with the iPhones 11 Pro Max, 11 Pro, 11, Xs Max, Xs and Xr. Are you already a Filmic user? Don’t worry — this feature will soon be added to that app, too.

Fantastical – Calendar & Tasks

Fantastical, still slightly confusing.

Fantastical v3.0 is a pretty big deal. It was the first calendar app that made it really easy to add new events — you just type them out in normal words, and the app puts the dates, times, locations and attendees into the right places for you. The new version is free, adding a subscription for new features. If you already own Fantastical 2, then you won’t lose any features, and you can enjoy the new UI. Version 3.0 also adds a better Apple Watch app, multiple views, weather and a bit more. It’s still just as busy and confusing as ever, but now it looks quite nice.

Byte

Byte is like Vine.

Remember Vine? Back when sharing six-second video clips was good enough, and you didn’t need stories, or direct messages, or anything like that. That’s Byte.

Raindrop.io

Raindrop.io is a beautiful bookmarking service.

Raindrop.io, the best bookmarking service around, just got a big update. The headline is full-text search of all the pages you have bookmarked, not just the title or summary.

Raindrop is beautifully designed: It’s easy to use, powerful and looks great. But I worry that it’s almost impossible to find out anything about the maker, other than his name and the country he lives in. The app also appears to use a tracker, which is blocked on iOS by the Guardian Firewall app. Still, it’s definitely the best bookmarking service I’ve tried.
