This time of year isn’t great for health and fitness. With a constant barrage of holidays, comprising stodgy meals and plenty of snacks, we talk lots about New Year resolutions — but don’t necessarily act on it.

However, your trusty Apple Watch is ready to nudge you in the right direction, courtesy of Apple’s upcoming “Ring in the New Year” challenge. Here’s what you need to know about it:

For the “Ring in the New Year” challenge, you have to close all three Activity rings for 7 days in a row. This means standing and moving about for at least a minute every hour for 12 hours of the day. You’ll also have to carry out 30 minutes of exercise each day, and hit your calorie burning goal every 24 hours.

This is similar to the Perfect Week (All Activity) badge. However, it can be gained by completing any 7 days in a row, while Perfect Week has to be a Monday-Sunday week.

The challenge goes live from January 7 and runs through January 31. What better way to kickstart the Roaring Twenties than by picking up your first special badge of the year (and associated iMessage and FaceTime stickers) in the Activity app?

Apple Watch challenges

Apple first presented a “Ring in the New Year” challenge back in 2016. Since then, it has run it every year with the exception — confusingly — of 2019.
