Facebook revealed some big updates coming to its tools for creators including one feature Instagram users have been begging for for years.

Post scheduling is finally being adding to Instagram but only for business accounts that are linked to a Facebook page. The feature is being added alongside some other tools for live video broadcasting and analytics on Facebook.

There have been a number of third-party apps that offer Instagram post scheduling. Most of those services require exposing your username and password to third-parties until Facebook created an Instagram API for third-party applications to schedule posts. This new addition builds on that same API.

The scheduling feature for Instagram is being added to Facebook’s Creator Studio. It’s the set of tools used by publishers (like us) to manage posts, view analytics and monetize content on Facebook and Instagram. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Instagram is adding the feature natively to its iOS app so you’ll have to schedule posts through a web browser. Scheduling is also available on IGTV now too.

Sightings of the Instagram scheduling feature first started popping up last month. Post can be scheduled up to 6 months in advance. Everything is done from the Creator Studio dashboard. You can crop your image, add a caption and tags, set the location and schedule the date and time for it to go live. Once you’ve got a bunch of posts scheduled you can go into your queue and reschedule them to adjust to your plans.

Most casual Instagram users probably won’t ever use the scheduling feature but for Influencers and brands cultivating an image on Instagram, Christmas just came a few months early.
