Want to give your iPhone a retro overhaul, combined with a bit of extra gaming goodness thrown in? If so, try this innovative Game Boy Color case for the iPhone, which transforms your iPhone into a replica of Nintendo’s iconic handheld games console.

The case will fit any iPhone ranging from a 2014-era iPhone 6 to a current iPhone XS Max. Not only does it promise to protect your handset from falls, but it also comes with 34 classic games built in.

Chytah makes this $50 gaming case. While it doesn’t let you load your original Game Boy Color cartridges, it does come with a bevy of titles you can play by flipping your iPhone around. Titles include Contra, Super Mario Brothers, Tetris, Bomber Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Excitebike, Spartan X, Arkanoid, Five Chess, Mahjang, Ice Climber, Pac-Man and Tennis.

Given the success of the NES and SNES Classic, it seems sure that this will find an audience. I haven’t gotten my hands on a unit, so I can’t attest to how good the game ports are. But provided they are of a high standard, this is every 1990s kid’s dream!

More iPhone Game Boy hybrids

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen iPhones transformed into classic Game Boys. Previous attempts have included everything from emulators to button overlays. So long as this is the real deal (and the makers have properly licensed the games in question), this looks to be among the best yet.

Just so long as younger gamers don’t expect them to measure up to today’s mobile titles. That lot is better off waiting for Apple Arcade to launch later this year!
