Apple wants to put some more marketing muscle behind Apple News

Apple is looking to beef up its Apple News team, according to new job listings the company has recently posted on LinkedIn.

Among other positions, Apple is looking to hire a new growth marketing manager, senior publisher partnerships manager, and social media manager. In all, it’s aiming to add 22 people to its Apple News team.

As a report by DigiDay notes, the new hirings will give Apple, among other things, people capable of forging strategic marketing partnerships with social media giants like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

While Apple constantly hires new team members, this may suggest that Apple is looking to ramp up its focus on marketing Apple News.

Growth of Apple Music

Last year, the audience for Apple News remained largely flat. The service secures between 60 and 63 million unique users every month. While that’s certainly a good amount, there’s definitely room for improvement.

Things are even more crucial as Apple pushes to embrace its Services division as a major revenue generator. Apple News+ represented Apple attempting to monetize news in a way that it hasn’t previously. The service reportedly amassed more than 200,000 paid subscribers in its first 48 hours of launching.

Nonetheless, in order to live up to Apple’s expectations, it’s going to have to rack up far more paid subscribers than that. (By comparison, Apple Music currently has more than 56 million subscribers.) By pulling in some extra marketing muscle, hopefully Apple News and its premium News+ offering can move to the next level. And take the struggling publishing industry with it!
