Vizio has started inviting TV owners to test AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support.

The invites come just over a month after users started registering their interest in the beta. Apple’s frameworks are baked into Vizio’s new SmartCast 3.0 platform, which is managed via an iOS app.

“VIZIO’s beta program lets you help make the next version of SmartCast the best release yet,” the company explains. “Test-drive the pre-release versions that include Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit, and let us know what you think.”

If you were lucky enough to bag one of the first invites, you’ll need to update your TV using the SmartCast app.

How to get AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on Vizio TVs

After downloading SmartCast, you’ll need to sign into your myVizio account, or create a new one. You should then have access to the latest beta release on your iPhone or iPad.

Once the beta is installed and you’ve accepted the terms and conditions of the program, you’ll be able to update your TV firmware. You’ll be able to set up HomeKit and start streaming over AirPlay 2 once the update is complete.

The beta is currently available to users in the U.S. and Canada. If you haven’t already signed up for access, you can do so via the Vizio website.

Which Vizio TVs are supported?

AirPlay 2 and HomeKit are coming to a range of Vizio TVs released in 2017 and beyond. The complete list includes:

  • P-Series Quantum (2018 and 2019)
  • P-Series (2017, 2018 and 2019)
  • M-Series (2017, 2018 and 2019)
  • E-Series (2017, 2018 and 2019)
  • D-Series (2017, 2018 and 2019)

LG, Samsung, and Sony are also adding support for Apple’s frameworks, but only on their latest sets released in 2018 and 2019.

SmartCast 3.0 rolls out later this year

If you don’t get access to the SmartCast 3.0 beta, you’ll be able to enjoy it later this year when the update rolls out to everyone.
