After a long period of scuttlebutt, the Associate Press is now reporting that Target will start selling Apple’s iPad.

Starting October 3rd, Target stores around the country will stock all three versions of the WiFi-only iPad, and apparently (as well as mysteriously) a single flavor of the 3G model, at least according to numerous media reports.

That doesn’t make a lot of sense, though: why would Target be limited to a single 3G model if it gets all of the WiFi variations, especially when an earlier leak from iPad’s inventory system showed them getting all six models?

Either way, the biggest advantage to buying an iPad at Target appears to be to get a slight discount on one: starting on October 17th, Target is rolling out a five percent discount on all purchases for store credit card holders, which is enough to save you between twenty five and thirty five bucks on the iPad of your choosing. That’s nothing to sneeze at.
