The 2018 iPhone lineup might be missing a “Plus” model when all three new iPhones are unveiled at the Steve Jobs Theater early next month.
Apple’s marketing team has reportedly been considering whether or not to ditch the Plus suffix that has been used on larger display iPhones ever since the iPhone 6 Plus came out in 2014.
Sources inside Apple told Bloomberg that Apple has altered the names of its new 2018 iPhones multiple times. The team is weighing the pros and cons of dropping the Plus naming scheme in favor of something different.
Goodbye iPhone Pluses
Apple’s marketing department supposedly has changed the naming schemes for the 2018 iPhones multiple times. One of the names being contemplated is calling the new premium phones the “iPhone Xs” so customers know they’re an upgrade from last year’s models.
While planning the new devices, Apple has altered the names multiple times. It has at least considered branding the new premium phones the “iPhone Xs,” indicating that they’re an upgrade to last year’s iPhone X model. The report doesn’t say what suffix Apple is thinking of using to replace the “Plus” naming scheme if it does drop it.
The report also reiterates other rumors that have been circulating for months, including new colors and bigger displays.
iPad Mini fans waiting for an upgrade are in for some disappointment this year too. Bloomberg says Apple does not plan to update its tiny tablet this year. Instead, the company plans to come out with two new iPad Pros models that will have edge-to-edge displays, Face ID and improved internals.
Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhones at an event on September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater. An official announcement for the keynote hasn’t been sent out yet,
