Epic Games is giving Fortnite players even more of a reason to enable two-factor authentication by offering up a free emote. It won’t take you long to claim yours, and it’s the easiest way to prevent hackers from stealing your account.

You should have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled already — especially if you’ve spent money inside Epic games. No one wants their account stolen and for all their Fortnite skins, emotes, and other items to be gone for good.

But to encourage those who haven’t enabled 2FA to finally wise up, Epic is giving away a free Fortnite emote.

How to claim your free Fortnite emote

The new Boogiedown emote is available to all players (you don’t need the Battle Pass) and unlocked as soon as 2FA is activated. You can check it out in the tweet below from Epic Games.

Enabling 2FA on your Epic account is easy, and it won’t take you long. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Visit the Account section on the Epic Games website
  2. Scroll down until you see “Two-factor authentication”
  3. Choose to enable 2FA either by using an Authenticator app, or via email

A code will be delivered to you using the method you chose, which you can then use to resign into your account. You will be asked to enter another code every time you sign into a new device, if it’s been 30 days since you last signed in, or if you’ve cleared your cookies.

Why two-factor authentication is important

Once 2FA is enabled, it’s near impossible for anyone else to sign into your account without an authentication code — even if they somehow guess your password or your login details are leaked. This prevents your account from being stolen.

It’s hugely important for anyone who’s invested time and money into their Epic account to use 2FA. It might seem like a hassle to activate, but it really doesn’t take long, and it’s much less frustrating than trying to recover an account that someone else now has control of.

Plus, you now get a free emote out of it!
