Obscura 2 is one of the best camera apps and a bargain at $4.99 if the iPhone is your primary camera.

Today, Apple and the developer of Obscura announced it is available to download at no charge through Sept. 25 via the Apple Store app.

Obscura 2 is a great tool that provides the iOS photographer more manual controls through a simple and gorgeous interface of large buttons and control wheel. In addition to manual settings, including focus, exposure, and ISO, the advanced app has 19 different filters to style photos and lets users shoot and save images in RAW format

Cult of Mac featured Obscura 2 in a series on “Essential iOS Apps.” Writer Ian Fuchs said it’s perfect for hobby shooters looking to gain advanced skills.

“If you have been frustrated by confusing camera apps in the past, the powerful simplicity of Obscura 2 makes it great,” he wrote. “Whether you are snapping family candids or taking epic Instagram photos, Obscura 2 is a great upgrade from the iPhone’s stock camera app. (It) can quickly elevate your iPhone photography experience.”

It is important to note that the free download is available through the Apple Store app and not the native App Store app that comes already loaded on your iPhone.

Once in the Apple Store app, tap the “Discover” tab and scroll down to a banner that says “Exclusive for you.” There, you will see the Obscura 2 icon. Tap it and then hit the prompt that says “Download now for free.”

This will route you to the App Store where you will need to enter your iTunes password. Once it is accepted, tap “Redeem” for the free download.
