Apple just rolled out its latest update to the official Apple Store app, introducing an improved search interface.
The version 5.1 release now displays search suggestions like the App Store and iTunes apps, and thanks to speech recognition, you can find products using your voice for the first time.
The Apple Store app is the easiest way to shop for Apple products from your iOS device. It certainly beats using Apple’s online store in mobile Safari. But what if you don’t know what you want?
Apple Store gets improved search
If you have a stack of cash burning a hole in your pocket, and you feel the urge to buy something with an Apple logo, search suggestions can help.
When you visit the search section inside the Apple Store app, you will now see a list of things you might want to “try searching” for. They might include products like AirPods or Beats, or broader phrases like “cases compatible with this device.”
If you don’t feel like typing at all, or you have trouble using a touchscreen, you can tap the microphone icon to search using your voice instead. It seems this feature is exclusive to shoppers in the U.S. for now, however.
Apple has also made some improvements to the way in which search results are presented, making it a little easier to find exactly what you’re looking for.
