The App Store is bigger than even Steve Jobs likely dared hope, but with around 2 million apps battling it out for your attention, there’s a discovery problem.

To help with this, Apple introduced a program called Search Ads a few years back to help highlight individual apps through advertisements. Apple is now rolling out its Search Ads service to new countries, bringing the total number of supported markets to 13.

New countries include France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and Spain. Already, the service is supported in the U.S., where it originally launched, in addition to Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The power of search is a curious thing

Apple’s Search Ads is split into Search Ads Basic and Search Ads Advanced tiers. Both of these offer different levels of service, depending on the size and marketing capabilities of developers.

The Search Ads Basic service will be available for developers to create campaigns in the new markets starting 10am PDT on August 22. Search Ads Advanced, meanwhile, can be used to create campaigns starting today — although they won’t shop up in the App Store until August 1.

According to Apple, 70 percent of visitors to the App Store discover their apps using search. Search prompts a total of 65 percent of all App Store downloads as well, thereby making search mastery an important differentiator for app makers.

While apps will show up in search results without you having to stage a Search Ads campaign, this helps by highlighting them at the top of App Store searches. They are distinguished from organic searches by way of a blue background and “Ad” icon.
