The superb Death Road to Canada is about to get even better. A madcap mix of randomly-generated zombie survival RPG, action game, and text-based interactive fiction game, this bonkers title is one of my favorite iOS games out there.

One of the things that makes it so good? The fact that its developers have released a constant stream of updates since its launch in March 2017. Far from simple bug fixes, these updates have given player a slew of new content to put them through their paces. Here’s what the latest “Gizzard” update adds to the formula:

Gizzard

Gizzard makes some alterations to the game’s last level, introduces a new character with new weapons, adds a new trading camp and new locations, and more. Other changes include:

– Added the Last Mall on Earth, a new special trading camp. Has gas trader, weapons buyer, recruit campfire, 6 random traders, and a guaranteed rare 7th trader!
– Added the ability for trading camps to force a rare trader, currently used in the Mall.
– Fixed a hospital generation bug
– Fixed a room crash bug
– Changed how the on-death attributes work. Now Phoenix, Shield of Hope, and the July 4th and Bort characters will not drop their weapons on resurrection.
– Adjusted a bunch of city generation code for less getting stuck on trash.
– Made that really narrow city no longer generate door-trash.
– New rare character: Moody added
– New weapon support added for Rocket Launchers and Electric Tools
– New weapons for Moody: Off-Brand Plasms Rifle, Moody Launcher, Moody Chainsaw
– You can no longer sell no-drop weapons to the Weapons Buyer, partially due to how exploitable this was on Moody
– New Song Added: One More Road. Plays during credits and as a random road song.
– Snubnose Pistol will now replace normal pistols 20% of the time
– Double-barrel Shotgun will now replace normal shotguns 10% of the time
– Ruined Trading Camp/Fire Sale: Removed the flaming car that was right next to you as you spawned.
– Fix for a crash caused by completely empty rooms.

As has been the case with previous Death Road to Canada updates, the developers raise the price by a single dollar to account for all the new material you get. That means that, with the latest update, the game will now set you back $13.99. The next update — possibly the last — will arrive this August.

While $13.99 is certainly reasonably pricey for an iOS game, it’s well worth it for something of this quality. Regardless of whether you’re a zombie fan, a pixel-art fan, or just a lover of fun original games, you should totally check this out now! (Or, at least, later today when the update officially goes live.)
