Apple and Samsung are both supposedly working on foldable phones. The Korean company will get its out first though, but hold onto your wallet, it’s going to be shockingly expensive.

An analyst predicts that this device, allegedly called the Galaxy X, will cost about 2M Korean won, or $1815. That’s nearly double the iPhone X, which drew criticism for its $999 price tag.

The price prediction comes from Kim Jang-yeol of Golden Bridge Investment, according to The Korea Times. The analyst also says the device will include a 7.3-inch OLED screen that can fold to 4.5 inches.

The Android-based model will be released in the first half of 2019, according to Kim.

Samsung is upfront about its plans to release a flexible smartphone. It has mentioned it during conference calls with investors, and company spokesman Kim Choon-gon told The Korea Times that a phone with a “true foldable display” is in the works.

Phones that open into tablets look to be the next hot trend, and Apple isn’t being left out.

This spring, an analyst predicted that an iPhone with a foldable display will be released in 2020. He made his comments after talking with parts suppliers in Asia.

What Apple’s iPhone/iPad combo will cost remains unknown, but hopefully it will be much more reasonably priced that Samsung’s Galaxy X.
