New renders of the upcoming iPhone SE 2, which depict its gorgeous glass back, have been revealed by a popular case-maker.

Olixar is already producing accessories for the device based on information it has gleaned from sources in China. Its new screen protector indicates the iPhone SE 2 will be a big surprise, with an edge-to-edge display just like iPhone X.

The iPhone SE certainly isn’t the most popular smartphone in Apple’s lineup, but it remains hugely important. Not only is it significantly more affordable than its siblings, but it’s the only iPhone that hasn’t been supersized to meet demand for larger displays.

In an effort to keep its price low, Apple has made minimal changes to the iPhone SE in recent years. The device still carries the same design introduced with the iPhone 5 in 2012. But this year’s model could look a whole lot different.

iPhone SE 2’s new glass back revealed

Olixar has published more renders of the new iPhone SE based on information it has obtained from partners in China. They reveal a new glass back — just like that on the iPhone 8 and iPhone X series — which will likely allow for wireless charging.

We’ve heard a number of times before that wireless charging will be one of the biggest improvements to the new iPhone SE. Olixar also expects the device to have an edge-to-edge display with a notch, just like the iPhone X. But that seems even more unlikely now.

Apple won’t give the iPhone SE 2 Face ID since this would drive up its cost and defeat its purpose. That means it will have to stuck with its trusty Touch ID sensor, but there’s no sign of that in the pictures Olixar has provided of the front and back of the device.

With that in mind, we suggest you take these renders with a pinch of salt and don’t get your hopes up for an iPhone SE with an edge-to-edge display this year… or for the foreseeable future.
