Steam has added official support for the Switch Pro Controller in its latest client beta.

Players no longer have to use fiddly third-party workarounds to enjoy Nintendo’s best controller in their favorite games. All of its buttons and even its motion controls are now fully supported.

Nintendo is responsible for some of the strangest game controllers, but in recent years, the Japanese company has been using more traditional controller designs for its Wii, Wii U, and Switch. Its Pro Controller for the latter is one of the best controllers out there today.

What makes the Pro Controller so spectacular is its comfortably bulky design, which makes it a joy to hold and use during mammoth gaming sessions. Its pleasingly tactile buttons, HD rumble feedback, and motion controls are the cherry on the cake.

And now, the Pro Controller isn’t just for Nintendo Switch.

Steam adds Switch Pro Controller support

With the latest Steam client beta, you can use the Switch Pro Controller inside your favorite PC games. There’s full support for all its buttons and features, including the gyroscope for motion controls.

“We think it is a great device with a feature set that pairs nicely with your Steam catalog,” says Valve in a post on its Steam blog. “The d-pad is ideal for fighting games and platformers and the gyro enhances aim in your action/FPS titles.”

Players have been connecting the Pro Controller to their Macs and PCs via Bluetooth for a while now, but in order to get them to work properly, you needed third-party workarounds that don’t always work properly. That’s no longer the case.

You’ll need to sign up for the Steam client beta to enjoy Pro Controller support now. Later on, this functionality will be available inside the public Steam client for Mac and PC.
