Still one of the best GTA games ever!

Astonishingly, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas turns 14 years old this year. And thanks to a new update to its iOS port, it looks better than ever on the iPhone X.

The gang-banging Rockstar Games masterpiece first landed on iOS back in 2013, nine years after it debuted for the PlayStaton 2. (You can check out my original review here.)

Now the developers have gone back and optimized the game for Apple’s flagship iPhone, resulting in the best possible mobile experience. With its sprawling maps, remastered graphics for iOS, and endlessly fun missions, this is basically the game to download for your iPhone X.

Aging like houses, not like bread

It seems impossible to think that there are GTA fans out there who are unfamiliar with San Andreas. Then again, as much time has now elapsed since the game landed on PS2 as had passed between the game’s launch and its nostalgic early 1990s setting. (TLDR: we’re getting old.)

San Andreas follows the character of Carl “CJ” Johnson, a former gangster who returns home to Los Santos to find his mom dead, his family in ruins, and his former gang marginalized. From there it’s a climb back to the top, as CJ takes on local gangstas and corrupt cops en route to re-establishing control of the streets.

It’s still one of the best Grand Theft Auto games out there, and stands up remarkably well in 2018, despite several generations of console having elapsed since its launch. It will set you back $6.99 in the App Store. It’s worth every single penny — and no in-app purchases, either!
