Apple’s is slowly invading the home turf of some of its biggest rivals in Seattle.
The iPhone-maker has reportedly secured more office space in one of the biggest skyscrapers in Seattle, where Amazon, Microsft and Facebook all fight for top tech talent.
Apple is moving into another floor at Two Union Square. The company already occupies all or part of four floors in the 56-story building. Once the expansion is complete, the company will have room for almost 500 employees on its five floors, according to GeekWire.
Seattle is one of the most competitive markets in the country for tech workers. Apple’s workforce in the area has been slowly growing over the last few year with a lot of the team devoted to AI efforts.
Public records show that Apple now has about 70,000 square feet of office space leased at the Seattle location. It’ll have to buy up a lot more space if it wants to catch up to Google though. The search giant employs nearly 3,000 people in the area. Facebook has space for about 3,000 workers too.
Apple doesn’t say what exactly its employees at the Seattle offices do, but the company set it up as an artificial intelligence hub after it acquired Turi in 2016. Some of the team might be working on Siri which is supposedly undergoing a total makeover.
