Apple Maps can now help you find a healthier and more environmentally-friendly ride. A new partnership with Ito World allows you to locate bike sharing stations in more than 175 cities across 36 countries. Simple search “bike sharing” now to get going.
When Apple shunned Google Maps in favor of its own service in 2012, it quickly realized mapping wasn’t easy. It has since been teaming up with all kinds of third-party services to make Apple Maps worth using. Its latest is big news for those who prefer to cycle.
Apple Maps now helps you find a bike
Starting today, you can search for bike sharing stations in big cities all around the world. Maps will provide you with the name, address, and contact information for the station — but it doesn’t yet tell you the number of bikes available.
Apple already had some bike sharing data for a handful of cities — London, New York, and Paris — inside Maps. But now that it’s working with Ito World, which was already teamed up with dozens of bike sharing services, it has significantly expanded its reach almost overnight.
“Apple Maps supports Citi Bike in NYC, Ford GoBike in San Francisco, BIKETOWN in Portland, Santander Cycles in London, bicing in Barcelona, BIXI in Montreal, CityCycle in Brisbane, nextbike in Germany, Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, the U.K., and dozens of others,” reports TechCrunch.
