Anyone with a busy schedule knows how checking off the list can either feel like climbing up a hill or running down one.

One surefire way to get people moving with the grain of daily tasks is to gamify them. That is, create a sense of accomplishment and forward movement at every step. That’s the approach that monday.com has taken in designing its task-management app.

monday.com works on iOS and Mac, so you and your team can play anywhere you go.

Making your work flow

The workflow of monday.com, formerly known as Dapulse, revolves around its boards. These are basically a shared dashboard for your team, tied to single or recurring projects. Projects get broken into discrete tasks, which can be broken into subtasks as needed. Each task is color-coded so it’s instantly clear what its status is. Green means complete, red means stuck, and so on. The urge to turn every square green is the crux of what makes this app work.

Weekly task boards and team task boards allow for granular or big-picture task setting. Each subtask can be dragged between teams and task families, so even setting up the task list starts to feel like a game. A timeline view offers another perspective, and another way to interact with the work to be done.

Each task and each step can become the basis of a conversation with the team, too. So in addition to being an addictive task manager, monday.com is also a platform for team communication.

One of the most powerful features, though, is the search feature. It allows for navigation through projects, teams and task groupings. Tasks returned in a search are still organized according to their respective teams and projects, and can be checked off from there.

These basic elements feel simple to use, and they are. But they can be built up in intensely complex ways, all the while retaining the feeling of playing with your to-do list rather than slaving away at it. With web and mobile versions available, monday.com is a viable and flexible solution for teams of all sizes. And it’s one that can keeps staying on task more fun for everyone.
