Instagram Stories is getting another interesting new feature — and this time it wasn’t stolen from Snapchat. Users in a number of markets are noticing they now have the ability to post GIFs, which they can source from the built-in Giphy search engine.

Facebook first teamed up with Giphy last year, giving users the ability to insert GIFs into their comments. Now the company is bring the service to Instagram Stories for those times when a still image or video just aren’t enough.

Giphy comes to Instagram Stories

The feature is already rolling out in some regions, including Brazil, Indonesia, and the Philippines, according to The Verge. It has been in testing among a small number of users since November. It shouldn’t be too long before all Instagram users can enjoy it.

What’s great about the GIFs in Instagram Stories is that they all have transparent backgrounds. That means you can paste them onto images of your own if you want to. Check out the preview video from The Next Web below to see how it works.

One of many new features on the way

GIF support is one of many new features on the way to Instagram Stories. The platform is also getting support for text-only Stories — as we covered earlier this week — as well as the ability to post stories to WhatsApp, another insanely-popular Facebook-owned service.
