Harry Potter is coming to iOS. Well, kind of.

In fact, a forthcoming game from Los Angeles-based developer Jam City, in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, will let you create your very own Hogwarts student and then take them through the school: attending classes, learning magic, forming friendships and rivalries, and generally learning how to grow as a wizard.

It sounds intriguing, and we’re hoping it lives up to the enormous potential of its concept. Check out the first trailer for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery below.

There’s not a whole lot more that we know about the game, which is set to arrive this spring. To coincide with the launch, Jam City will debut it at A Celebration of Harry Potter, an event being held at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, kicking off January 26.

Interestingly, the game isn’t set during the time of the Harry Potter books, but rather during the 1980s. That’s before Harry’s birth, back when Nymphadora Tonks and Bill Weasley were students. Will Harry play any part in the game? We guess that remains to be seen. I mean, he is in the title, after all…

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery isn’t the only Potter game we’re looking forward to on iOS this year. Even more exciting than an RPG set in the Potter universe is Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which promises to use Apple’s augmented reality ARKit to allow people to do a bit of (virtual) magic for themselves.
