Nvidia has unleashed the world’s first lineup of big-screen TVs fit for gaming.
They’re called BFGDs (Big Format Gaming Displays) and they’re capable of displaying 4K content at an ultra-fast 120Hz. They boast support for Nvidia G-Sync and HDR — and they have a Shield TV built right in.
Standard TVs aren’t really ideal for fast-paced gaming. They lack high refresh rates, low latency and all the other things that make great gaming monitors great. Nvidia hopes to change that with a lineup of 65-inch BFGDs.
The Big Format Gaming Display
Coming later this year from Acer, ASUS and HP, the first BFGDs will support super-sharp 4K video at 120Hz. They’ll have a 1ms response rate that matches that of the best gaming monitors, making them ideal for even the most intensive games.
“On many other displays, various processes are used to playback 24 FPS movies and videos at 60 Hz, which results in noticeable judder and blurriness in panning scenes and moments of fast action,” Nvidia explains. “Some techniques and processes are better than others, but before now you could never approach the clarity of a high-quality cinema setup at home.”
BFGDs will also support Nvidia G-Sync technology to prevent screen tearing, and PC-tuned HDR with a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. They will also have Nvidia Shield TV baked in, giving you access to a catalog of Android TV apps.
That includes the likes of Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and more.
BFGDs aren’t just for PC gamers
BFGDs aren’t just for PC gaming. Nvidia says console players will also notice “snappier, more responsive controls,” and “minimal display lag, reduced screen motion blur, and fantastic HDR support to make the colors pop.”
