The Apple Watch Series 3 experienced a 50 percent sequential increase in sales over the July to September quarter, and Apple is looking to bring in new suppliers to help deliver on the increased demand.
One of the companies that reportedly wants in? Foxconn, a.k.a. the manufacturer which already builds Apple’s iPhones and iPads, but now hopes for a piece of its wearables business assembly too.
Another newcomer, which has already landed orders to work on the SiP (system in package) packaging services to the Apple Watch, is Foxconn affiliate ShunSin Technology, a company established back in 2008. ShunSin will start developing the components from early next year.
Other manufacturers currently working on the device, which will likely see increasing orders for the Apple Watch, include Quanta Computer, Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), Career Technology, Kinsus Interconnect Technology and E&R Engineering.
The report additionally suggests that Apple Watch’s overall shipments will likely reach at least 25 million units in 2018. Making this more exciting is the fact that most of these sales will supposedly by from first time buyers, rather than those replacing older units. That’s exciting because it further demonstrates that Apple Watch has now moved well beyond the early adopters who were willing to take a punt on it early on, and onto the kind of mainstream users who could one day make it an iPhone-sized (or at least close) success.
The world’s “most loved” smartwatch
Although Apple has yet to release sales figures for the Apple Watch, the company this year claimed that the Apple Watch is now the world’s top selling smartwatch. During Apple’s recent earnings call, Tim Cook described it as the, “best-selling and most loved smartwatch in the world.”
