You have one week to wait for your new iPhone X preorder to arrive (if you’re one of the lucky ones). There are some things you should be doing during that time to ensure you’re all set for delivery day.

Here are a few tips.

Most of us spent at least $999 on our iPhone X. Even if you took advantage of carrier discounts, it will have still been an expensive purchase. You’re going to want to make the most of your iPhone X for as long as you own it, and ensure it doesn’t die an early death.

Get a case

The first thing you should do after preordering your iPhone X is buy a case. There are already a ton available, and you should have one ready to go as soon as your new handset lands on your doorstep. The last thing you want to do is drop and break it on Day 1.

We’ve rounded up some of the best iPhone X cases available right now. Whether you want slim and slender or ultimate impact protection, you’ll find one that’s ideal — and affordable.

Get AppleCare+

For extra protection, take out AppleCare+. It’s priced at $199 for iPhone X, and it’s worth every penny. It extends your warranty coverage to two years (as opposed to just one), and throws in accidental damage coverage on top.

That means if you break your iPhone X’s stunning Super Retina HD display, it will cost you just $29 to get it repaired.

AppleCare+ coverage also gives you priority access to Apple experts via chat or on the phone, 24/7. Just remember that you need to buy it within 60 days of purchasing your iPhone X, so don’t wait too long. (If you got your iPhone X using Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program, AppleCare+ is included. Lucky you.)

Get a fast charger

iPhone X finally gives us fast charging. This provides up to 50 percent battery life (from 0 percent) in just 30 minutes. The only problem? Apple doesn’t include a fast charger in the box.

But you should definitely buy a fast charger to take advantage of the technology. You never know when you’ll need as much power as possible, as fast as possible.

Apple sells an adapter that’s capable of fast charging; it’s the same 29-watt model that ships with a MacBook, and it’s priced at $50. You can get third-party options for less, such as this one from Anker, which boasts two USB ports and costs just $12.99 right now.

Get a wireless charger

iPhone X also boasts wireless charging, but again, Apple doesn’t provide the accessory you’ll need in the box. Fortunately, the Qi charging standard has been around for years, so there are plenty of affordable charging pads to choose from.

Don’t just buy the cheapest, though. Like charging adapters, some charge faster than others, and you’ll want one that takes advantage of the cutting-edge components in iPhone X.

We’re rounded up a bunch of awesome wireless chargers you can choose from.

Prepare for delivery day

When your iPhone X arrives, you’re going to want to start using it as quickly as possible. But there are some things you’ll need to do first — like transferring all your data from your old phone.

We’ve put together an upgrade guide that makes the process incredibly easy, and helps ensure you don’t miss anything.

Get rid of your old iPhone

You’ll probably need your old iPhone until iPhone X arrives, but once you have it, you can sell its predecessor to claw back some of the money you just spent.

Cult of Mac buys back old iPhones (and other devices), and we offer some of the highest cash prices. In almost all cases, we pay more than Amazon, GameStop, Gazelle and Walmart. We also make the entire process incredibly easy.

What’s more, we’re one of the only services that already buys back iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus; not even Apple or Gazelle will accept these yet. So, if you upgraded in September and changed your mind for iPhone X, we’ve got your back.
