The wonderfully useful universal search function on Apple TV now supports a bunch of new services. Apple has added a number of popular providers in many countries, including BBC America, FX Now, and its own Apple Music.
Introduced with tvOS 10, universal search makes finding content on your Apple TV easier than ever. You can search for shows, movies, and music from all compatible providers simultaneously, negating the need to perform multiple searches in individual apps.
Apple has been adding new providers to universal search since it made its debut. This week, a bunch of new names were added, including Apple Music for those in several countries. Others include:
- 9Now (Australia)
- BBC America (U.S.)
- C More (Norway, Sweden)
- CBC (Canada)
- Classix (U.S., Australia, Canada)
- FX Now (Canada)
- Hopster (France)
- OCS (France)
- Oxygen (U.S.)
- SBS (Australia)
- tenplay (Australia)
- Tou.TV (Canada)
- Treehouse (Canada)
- Viaplay (Norway, Sweden)
You don’t need to update
When you perform a universal search, content from these providers will automatically be included. You don’t need to update your Apple TV or even install the provider’s app, though you will need a fourth-generation Apple TV or later to use the feature.
