Despite removing its annual Design Awards show from the WWDC 2017 schedule last month, Apple still handed out awards for the best apps of the year at its developer conference and games were the biggest winners.

Five of the 12 apps selected as 2017 Apple Design Award winners this year were games. While some of the games focused on bringing fun through simple gameplay and graphics, others like Old Man’s Journey focused on innovative story telling and unique gameplay.

Productivity apps also faired well. Currency converter Elk, Things 3, Airmail 3, Enlight and writing app Bear all picked up honors.
