Ellen DeGeneres is in the illustrious company of Kim Kardashian as one of a small number of celebrities-turned-“developers” who have successfully launched their own apps.

Having previously launched the smash hit Heads Up!, Ellen’s now back with a new iOS game based on a segment from her TV show. Called Hot Hands, it’s a game which flashes up images of celebrities, and then asks players to say their name as quickly as possible.

And thanks to some nifty voice recognition tech, it actually looks pretty good fun!

As with the version played by audience members on TV, in Hot Hands, players must say the name of the celebrity they see on screen as quickly as possible, and then tap on a red button. Using voice recognition tech, the app is able to determine whether your answer is correct.

However, if you’re unable to play that mode (maybe you’ve got one of those weird bosses who don’t like you playing mobile games in the middle of work meetings), you can still play Hot Hands on the down-low using modes in which you either tap the correct name in a multiple choice round, or type the initials of the celeb in question. Playing the game unlocks new categories, thereby extending its shelf life.

While I haven’t yet had the chance to play Hot Hands in great depth (or whatever depth it has, at least), Ellen’s previous Heads Up! was a whole lot of fun as a party game, and this looks to continue the trend.

You can download it from the App Store for free here.
