Jaguar is partnering with Shell to give drivers the ability to pay for gas from inside their cars using Apple Pay or PayPal.
You’ll need a new Jaguar F-PACE, XE, or XF and the Shell app to take advantage of the feature at participating gas stations.
Services like Apple Pay have already made paying for goods online and in retail stores more convenient. Now they are revolutionizing the way we pay for gas at the pump, thanks to Jaguar and Shell.
Starting in the U.K. but rolling out globally later on, Shell will allow customers to pay for fuel using Apple Pay or PayPal (Android Pay support will be added later) through their Jaguar in-car entertainment system.
Drivers start by installing the Shell app on their mobile device. They then pull up at a participating gas station, specify how much fuel they wish to purchase, then pre-pay for it before filling up. A copy of the receipt is displayed and sent to their email address.
You will still need to get out of your vehicle to pump the gas, of course — but at least you won’t have to stand in line and wait to pay for it like everyone else. It’s only a matter of time before other car makers and gas companies offer the same service.
