Watching the NFL’s Thursday Night Football games this season will no longer require a cable subscription, as long as you got Apple TV.
Twitter revealed that it’s taking a big dive into video content today with its new app for Apple TV that will offer free live streaming of tons of sports other than football.
The app will have free access to content from MLB Advanced Media, NBA, Pac 12 Networks, Campus Insiders, Cheddar and Bloomberg News.
Twitter is launching its app on Amazon Fire TV and Microsoft’s Xbox One too. But Apple TV is the only platform where you can watch live video and Tweeted video clips side-by-side.
“These devices will bring Twitter’s live streaming video experience to life on the TV screen,” said Twitter CFO, Anthony Noto, “We’re excited to introduce this new experience to people, without requiring a paywall or having to log in to Twitter.”
Instead of trying to port its desktop or mobile app experience onto the big screen, the TV app will surface top Tweets, Vines and Periscope videos from around the world. Your personal timeline won’t be visible in the app.
Apple TV users can download Twitter’s app from the Apple TV App Store starting today.
