Let’s face it: Siri is a pretty astounding bit of technology, but even its creators aren’t going to argue any time soon that it’s quite on the level of HAL 9000, the murderous artificial intelligence seen in Stanley Kubrick’s classic sci-fi movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

As the below hilarious reimagining of one of the film’s most iconic scenes makes abundantly clear. Check it out:

This isn’t the first time someone has brought up Apple and Kubrick’s classic space opera in the same breath. Among Siri’s numerous Easter eggs is an amusing summary of the plot — along the lines of, “it’s [a movie] about an assistant named HAL who tries to make contact with a higher intelligence. These two guys get in the way and mess it all up.”

Apple even parodied 2001 a good decade before it first shipped Siri, with this fantastic (and too often forgotten) Super Bowl commercial warning everyone of the dangers of the Millenium Bug (yeah, that thing!) and how Apple was the one company you’d able to rely on when planes started falling out of the sky.
