You could say John Borofka has put a handle on power.

He founded Poros, a company that designs travel and accessories bags with built-in battery system to charge your devices. The company’s fourth bag is a stylish backpack called the Tetra.

The Tetra carries a 10,000 mAh lithium ion battery, enough juice to fully charge a MacBook Retina or an iPhone 6s four and a half times. It can be ordered with a dedicated Apple Lightning Connector and is ready for the future with USB-C compatibility.

The Tetra will likely retail for $229, but is available for as low as $99 on Indiegogo, a crowd-funding site Poros is using to spur mass production.

Several companies offer bags with built-in chargers for devices, but Borofka set out to build Poros to specialize in bags with power.

The Cedar is a conventional laptop bag with a 100 percent leather exterior that sells on the Poros sight for $269. The Alder is a roomy commuting bag made from ballistic nylon and leather trim that retails for $199. The Birch is a classic weekend duffle bag, made with ballistic nylon and brushed metal accents, that goes for $269.

The Tetra compliments the lineup with a rich navy-blue nylon and gray trim. Even with the battery, it is lightweight and maintains a relatively slim profile. The bag meets TSA requirements, has the charging cables, including USB-C, you would need and features a discreet display to show a battery’s charging status.

Borofka has batteries on the brain. He was CFO at Zero Motorcycles, an electric motorcycle company, before he left in 2014 to start Poros. He loved Zero but said he felt “compelled to roll up my sleeves and build a product that solved a problem.”

“It does seem odd transitioning from motorcycles to bags, right? Borofka told Cult of Mac in an email. “There’s a common theme of lithium ion batteries and tech across Zero Motorcycles and Poros, as well as the realization of how leading-edge technology can make our modern lives better.”
