If you think everyone and their sister has a Gmail account or uses WhatsApp these days, you wouldn’t be too far off.

Both tech giants, one a messaging app, the other an email service, have hit some serious milestones today.

Alphabet-owned Google, the makers of Gmail, confirmed in its financial report that there are over one billion active Gmail users each month, which is about 100 million more than there were just this last May.

The Gmail team sent out a Tweet today with a cute little video to celebrate.

WhatsApp — a Facebook company — also reported stellar numbers of active monthly users, as well, citing one billion of them, too.

“That’s nearly one in seven people on Earth who use WhatsApp each month to stay in touch with their loved ones, their friends and their family,” says the WhatsApp blog post.

Seriously, we’re glad the big companies like Google and Facebook are winning so large, lately, but the continued consolidation of everyone into one big WhatsApp-using overmind seems like the stuff of dystopian fiction, doesn’t it?

Let’s hope that all these users connect with each other to make the world a better place, yeah?
