Amazon’s Instant Video service has one of the best libraries in the world, but if you’re an Apple user, it has a crucial weakness: the only way to get it on Apple TV is to AirPlay it from an iOS or OS X device.

AirPlaying can be unreliable at times and you can’t use certain apps without cutting off your Amazon stream. That could change in just a few weeks though, according to an Amazon employee who let it slip that the company is working on an app for the new Apple TV.

iOS developer Dan Bostonweeks reached out to Amazon about the development of an Instant Video app for tvOS Instant Video and received a surprisingly revealing reply that the app is already in development and should be out “within a few weeks.”

Despite embracing other third-party streaming devices, Amazon hasn’t has never made a video streaming app for Apple TV. Representatives from both Amazon and Apple declined to comment on the Instant Video app for tvOS.

Amazon has taken a hostile stance to the Apple TV recently by banning the sales of the device and its accessories from the Amazon marketplace. Embracing tvOS would be a bit of a surprise, however it will also allow the company to better compete with Netflix, HBOGo, and Hulu. The company also has apps on other products that compete with the FireBox, such as Roku, Playstation 4, and Xbox.
