Pro Tip Cult of Mac bugYou know that Apple TV is a great set-top box that allows you to play games, watch TV shows and movies, and even listen to Apple Music streams.

What you may not have known is that you can connect Bluetooth speakers so that you don’t bother your roommates or family when you’re watching, enhance dialogue, and even change the audio language on supported media.

Here’s how to do all that, from the comfort of your couch with the new Siri Remote.

Adjust volume with Siri Remote

When you start playing a video, whether movie or TV show, you can of course adjust the volume with the Siri Remote that comes with your new Apple TV. Just press the + or – button on the remote and it will change the volume on your television.

Swipe down for options

Audio options can be found with a downward swipe while watching a video.

In addition, you can swipe down on the touch surface at the top of the remote to see Info, Subtitles and Audio options for your currently playing video. Once you swipe down, swipe over to the Audio subsection. You’ll see options here for the Language, Sound and Speakers.

Reduce loud sounds

If your media supports a different language, swipe to select that language in the Language section. Choose Reduce Loud Sounds to enhance the dialog during your show, and reduce the louder sounds so that you’re not waking the whole house up with explosions.

Output to elsewhere

You can also change what speakers the audio outputs to. If you’ve connected a Bluetooth speaker or headset in Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth, you’ll see that device in the far right Speakers section. Swipe down to choose the connected headset or speaker and the audio from your Apple TV will head that way.
