iOS 9 has continued to make Apple Maps better by introducing transit directions to the mix. Unfortunately, they’ve been relatively slow-to-roll out, with transit directions available in 11 cities. But yesterday, Apple quietly updated its site, indicating that transit directions for Boston, Massachusetts and Sydney, Australia are imminent.
As spotted by Apple Insider, if you visit Apple’s iOS 9 Feature Availability webpage, 13 cities are now listed for transit locations, where as it was previously 11.
Sadly, at least in my testing, it looks like transit directions in Boston (my hometown) are not yet available in-app. The same seems to be true for Sydney, and I’m seeing other comments on the Internet saying the same. So it looks like an Apple web monkey might have jumped the gun prematurely on the announcement.
Still, it seems likely that Transit is coming to Boston and Sydney soon. Hopefully, that’s just the start of a larger rollout of transit directions, coming off of Apple’s acquisition of Hopstop. What city do you think should get Apple Maps transit directions next?
